Five Low-Maintenance Plants For Your Home

With the weather finally beginning to warm up and mornings becoming a little brighter, it’s a great time to revamp the greenery in and around your house. However, if you’re not blessed with a green thumb, fear not. Fortunately, there are plenty of gorgeous plants available for both inside and outside that can survive with even the most forgetful plant parents. Here are five plants that are as tough as they are beautiful.

A Fiddle Leaf Fig could be the perfect mini plant to add some vibrance to your home office. It doesn’t need as much watering as some of its plant counterparts, it has lush green leaves that are easy to care for and it thrives in warmer temperatures. However, Fiddle Leaf Figs are not pet friendly, so if you have any furry critters, it’s best to look for another option.

For those with ‘black thumbs’…

We all have our skills and our blind spots. Some of us can build luscious jungles in our backyards with nothing but a bag of soil, some seeds, and a dream, some of us couldn’t keep a plant green if our lives depended on it. Lithops are the ultimate, low-maintenance plant, as they’re able to survive for months and even seasons with next to no water! Their unique, stone-like appearance makes them ideal for decorating a backyard, especially since they thrive in full sunlight.

For the aspiring chefs…
If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen and love fresh produce, a thriving herb garden could be a complete game-changer. However, be mindful that they require you to keep on top of any growing seedlings. A simple basil plant in the right location and with a generous amount of water will grow quickly, giving you a surplus supply of one of the most popular herbs for several cuisines. Be sure to take leaves from the top to encourage bushier and wider growth.

For the hopeless romantics…

In the running for the cutest plant on this list is Hoya Kerrii, most known as Hoya Hearts, because of their uncanny resemblance to a love heart! Like the other succulents on this list, Hoya plants benefit from direct sunlight and minimal water, making them incredibly easy to care for. They’re also a pet-friendly option. If you’re looking for a housewarming gift for that special someone, this is hard to beat!

For small spaces…

If you live in a smaller property, or your backyard space is limited, it can be difficult to grow thriving greenery. But you can still build a smaller, urban garden in tight areas. Michelia is a bright flower belonging to the magnoliaceous family, making them a type of magnolia. This small flower thrives in small spaces and can make a great lining for garden beds located on balconies or on window sills!
