Halloween Mummy Cakes Recipe

We are getting into the Halloween spirit this month with some mummy cupcakes!

Ingredients:

• 1 cup of Woolworths essentials vanilla cake mix
• 2/3 cup of full-fat milk
• 2 eggs
• 40g unsalted butter, melted
• 2 tsps orange food colour or mix 1 tsp yellow + 1 tsp red food colour
• 1 tbs icing sugar (for dusting)
• 600g pack of white fondant
• 1 pack of candy eyes

Method:

1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
2. In a large mixing bowl add the cake mix, milk, eggs and butter and mix using an electric mixer. Go slow until combined, then medium for 3 minutes. It should look light and fluffy when it’s done.
3. Pour half the mixture into a separate bowl and mix in the orange food colour using a spoon.
4. Spoon in 2 tbs of the mixture into silicone cupcake moulds.
5. Spoon the original white cake mixture into silicone cupcake moulds.
6. Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes. You will know the cupcakes are ready when you poke a toothpick into the cupcake and it comes out dry.
7. Don’t worry if your cupcakes come out a little wonky. It adds to the effect.
8. Sprinkle some icing sugar on a clean surface. Cut off a chunk of the white fondant and roll it out until it’s about 2mm thick. Cut it into strips of all different widths.
9. Zig zag the strips across the cupcakes so that it resembles a wrapped up mummy. If the fondant is too dry dip your fingers into some cold water and pat it onto the fondant.
10. Pop on two candy eyes.
