Weekend ready holidays for Autumn

Just because the kids are going back to school, it doesn’t mean the fun has to stop for everyone. Although long holidays are now out of the question (unless you’re okay with pulling them out of school for a few days), it looks like family enjoyment needs to be limited to the weekends for the time being.

No need to fret though, there’s plenty of options in this wonderful country of ours to give you enough fun to classify as a holiday!

Victoria

Jamieson Autumn Festival – showcasing the natural beauty of Jamieson (think beautiful native and foreign trees with vivid Autumn coloured leaves), as well as the town’s talent. Escape for the weekend of Saturday 28 April and take back a slice of country with you, fine art and pottery is plentiful at the stalls!

High Country Harvest Festival – a wonderful salute to amazing country produce, wines and breweries, this festival runs over three weeks so you can pretty much pick your most suited weekend escape. Starting Friday 4 May and ending Sunday 20 May 2018

Visit CANOPY – Parks Victoria are testing concept designs for Eco Sleeper Pods around parks in Victoria, and want your feedback! Go check them out and give these designs some online love if you want them there permanently.

New South Wales

Visit the Jenolan Caves – located in the World Heritage Blue Mountains, this is one that should be on everyone’s bucket list. Especially fun for the kids (who have probably been here already on a school trip), this little getaway is packed with adventure and still close enough to Sydney to not require longer than a weekend!

Go camping at Durras – with a main beach stretching out as far as you can see this is perfect for the families’ keen to embrace the cold! Bring some thermals and blankets and enjoy all the activities on offer, without needing to worry about that pesky sunburn (dependant on weather forecast, please still wear sunscreen). Can’t take the cold? They have cabins too!

Queensland

Go luxe in Noosa at The Lodge – This super fancy getaway will make you feel like you’re in Bali (who needs warm weather) without the stress of the long flight! We would tell you to leave the kids at their grandparents, but this space is so big you can even bring the grandparents along!

Go find Cedar Creek Falls – this picturesque waterway is not too hard to get to and is even more beautiful in Autumn than it is in summer. Stay nearby (Airlie Beach is a good pick) and enjoy a day picnic and swim (if you’re brave enough) around the beautiful parks of Mount Glorious – the name doesn’t lie.

Western Australia

Head to Mandurah for the Halls Head Coastal Trail – Perfect for a bike ride on a cooler day, this 12km trail allows some pretty amazing views over the Indian Ocean. Stay nearby in the second largest city in Western Australia for the weekend.

Go to Penguin Island – if we’re talking about activities that excite the kids (and lets face it, adults get pretty excited over penguins too) this one is perfect. If you’re not keen on staying the night, Penguin Island runs day tours from Perth, and if you want to make a weekend out of it, stay in Rockingham and head there for the full day!

South Australia

Explore the Fisherman’s Wharf Markets in Port Adelaide – held on Sundays this is a great activity to get out and explore around Port Adelaide.

Take a Marion cruise on the Murray – Held all year long on the Murray River, short cruises are available if you’re after a beautiful perspective of Mannum and wonderful river scenery. If you’re willing to wait until the weekend of May 26, the Rockford Steam Powered dinner is available to the lucky guests aboard the cruise.
